    Incubation Centre at VAMNICOM

    Cooperatives play a major role in India’s economy. With 98% coverage (8.5 lakh cooperative  societies, 8,052 cooperatives registered as MSMEs, 81 lakh MSMEs) in rural India, cooperatives are the mainstay of rural economy ensuring sustainable livelihoods and income for people. Present in diverse sectors including agriculture, dairy, forestry, fisheries, credit and banking, housing and construction, cooperatives in India serve vast sections of society including farmers, women, youth, poor and the marginalized. The Indian cooperative movement is committed to addressing developmental issues and empowering the common man and woman in both the formal and informal economy. The cooperatives have inherent advantages in tackling the problems of poverty alleviation, food security, and employment generation. Cooperatives are also, considered to have immense potential to deliver goods and services in areas where both the state and the private sector have failed.

    Challenges in Cooperative ecosystem

    The six important challenges revolve whole life cycle of cooperatives but also touches upon all the facets of their business and governance in it

    • Legal framework and ease of doing Business
    • Governance, management and business practices
    • Viability, business expansion and technology infusion
    • Cooperative Education and Training
    • Promotion of new cooperatives/collectives and mitigating regional imbalances
    • Promoting Social Cooperatives and Social Security

    To overcome the above challenges, the incubation center will work in five focus areas such as

    • Business Education
    • The principal activities of the Ministry of Cooperation include streamlining processes for ‘Ease of doing business ’ for co-operatives and enabling development of Multi- State Co-operative Societies. It lays emphasis on strengthening, bringing transparency,modernization,computerization, creating competitive cooperatives, working constantly to meet the challenge of accessibility to development for every   underprivileged in rural areas and on connecting every village with cooperatives, making every village prosperous with the mantra of “Sahakar se Samriddhi” and through this making the country prosperous. The cooperative ecosystem will bean innovative platform for Youth to explore, build and derive various fruitful ways to  work, develop and strive for rural mass.
    • Interested candidates/entrepreneurs/start-ups that have innovate ideas or unique cooperative business models to overcome the above challenges will be provided handholding and incubation assistance.

          Funding opportunities to upcoming enterprises and startups in cooperative sectors
    • Funding will be channelized through different schemes of the Ministry of Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Food Processing Industries and startup funding organizations like DST, BIRAC, RKVY-RAFTAAR, Startup India, MSME, AIM etc. Beyond Funding, the startups will be provided a platform to showcase their products and services to the stakeholder likewise cooperatives, FPOs, SHGs and relevant entities who will be the promoters and technological interventions platform for the incubated startups at VAMNICOM Incubation centre.
