The "Centre for Gender Studies & Micro Finance" of Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) is undertaking training, research and consultancy in various aspects relating to women development and micro finance. It was created to design, plan and execute programmes of training and research in various fields. It has published a manual on Gender Sensitization and Empowerment of Women in Cooperatives It is collaborating with Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India, Rastriya Mahila Kosh, Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai, National Commission for Empowerment of Women, New Delhi, NABARD, NAFCUB & others.
The objectives & functions of Centre for Gender Studies are as follows:
1. To diagnose the status of women in terms of economic, social, political and cultural reforms in the country.
2. To identify the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for women in designing rational action plan.
3. To undertake action research at grass-root level, surveys and analysis on key problem areas.
4. To give recommendations to various cooperatives as well as to Central and State Governments in designing the women development policy.
5. To conduct/organize training programmes of women in various areas of their interest in cooperatives.
6. In order to achieve the above objectives, Centre for Gender Studies is concentrating on following main activities:

B. ACHIEVEMENTS
1. The training programmes provided a forum for the participants to share their experiences in various areas of interest in cooperatives and a SWOT analysis was prepared.
2. The case study on “Gender Sensitization in Cooperatives – A Case Study of a Cooperative Dairy” received the FIRST PRIZE at the Annual Case Study Competition conducted by the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi.
3. Preparation of Module on Gender Sensitization.
4. Preparation of report of Proceedings of Centenary Programme on Empowerment of Women through Cooperatives.
5. Documentation of the success stories of – Women Cooperatives.
6. Preparation of Gender disaggregated data.

Institute Policy on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013
Sexual Harassment defined – unwelcome sexually determined behaviour, whether directly or by implication, such as :
Physical contact and advances
Demand or request for sexual favours.
Sexually coloured remarks.
Showing pornography.
Any other welcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature. ( as defined by Sexual Harassment Act)
Unbecoming of a Government servant. – Any act of sexual harassment of women employees attracts the provisions of Rule 3(1)(iii) of Conduct Rules as an act unbecoming of a Government servant and amounts to misconduct.(as defined by Swamy – CCS Conduct rules).
Criminal Proceedings. – If such an act of sexual harassment amounts to any specified offence under the Indian Penal Code or under any other law, complaint should be made to the appropriate authority, in this case the Internal Complaints Committee of N.I. for taking criminal action for such misconduct.(as defined by Swamy – CCS Conduct rules).
Complaint Mechanism – The Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management, Pune has an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as constituted by the Sexual Harassment Act. Information board about the composition of the Complaints Committee is displayed in various locations of the Institute. The National Institute will have “ZERO Tolerance” to Sexual Harassment of Working Women.
a) The ICC will monitor to (a) ensure time bound treatment of the complaints. (b) it will ensure that victims or witness will not be victimized or discriminated against while dealing with such cases. (c) The report of the Complaints Committee shall be treated as an enquiry report. – Rule 3-C, GIDs (25) and (25 –A to 25 – D)
The jurisdiction of the policy on Sexual Harassment will be all employees of the National Institute, including faculty, staff and contract workers. This policy will be applicable to all employees who are on the pay of the Institute and are working in the premises of the N.I.
